Pre and post-wedding venues in Spain: what actually works
Most couples book the ceremony venue first and only start thinking about the rest of the weekend once the deposit is paid. That is fine, but the guest experience is decided at the welcome dinner and the farewell brunch, not at the main wedding. Get those right and everything in between takes care of itself.
Spain makes this easier than almost anywhere else in Europe. Restaurants understand large private events. Villas can be hired for two or three days at a time. Beach clubs let you buy out a section without renting the whole property. Wineries in Penedès, Rioja and Priorat host wedding-party groups almost every weekend from May through October. The infrastructure is here. What matters is picking the right space for the right night.
The welcome dinner
Usually the night before the wedding. Between 30 and 150 guests, depending on whether you invite everyone who has travelled or just family plus wedding party. Best options are restaurants with a private room or a garden, or a villa with catering brought in. In Ibiza, that means restored fincas or rooftop restaurants in Talamanca. In Mallorca, family-run restaurants around Deià and Sóller. In Barcelona, either a Gothic Quarter restaurant with a private courtyard or a masía in Penedès. Timing wise, around 8pm start in summer, 7pm in October.
The rehearsal night
Smaller and more relaxed than the welcome dinner. Wedding party only, or immediate family. A tasting menu at a chef-driven restaurant works well. In coastal regions, seafood chiringuitos with private tables get remembered longer than the fancier option. Book at least six months out for peak-season Fridays.
The day after
This is where a lot of couples underestimate what guests want. After a full wedding, most people want to swim, eat something light and see everyone one more time before flying home. Pool parties at the wedding villa or a nearby estate solve all three. Beach club buy-outs on the Golden Mile in Marbella or the western side of Ibiza are the polished option. Farewell brunch at a coastal restaurant closes the weekend if you would rather keep it short.
Activities and experiences
Between the pre and post events, guests have unstructured time. Filling some of it with a shared experience creates the memories they will bring up years later. Boat charters around Ibiza and Formentera. Cooking classes with paella masters in Valencia. Wine tours in Rioja or Priorat that end in a long lunch. Private flamenco in Seville and Madrid. Sailing regattas out of Palma. None of it needs to be elaborate. It just needs to happen and be well organised.
How we plan it
We treat pre and post-wedding venues as one package with the main wedding. Once the ceremony venue is booked, we map every event around it, propose spaces within reasonable transfer time, negotiate rates, coordinate transport and staff each event on the day. One welcome dinner or a full five-day itinerary for a hundred guests, the same team plans it end to end.
Common Questions
FAQ
What are pre-wedding venues?+
Pre-wedding venues are the spaces used for events leading up to the wedding day: welcome dinners, rehearsal gatherings, hen and stag parties, and casual meet-ups for arriving guests. They are usually smaller and more relaxed than the main wedding venue.
What are post-wedding venues?+
Post-wedding venues host the day-after and farewell events: brunches, pool parties, boat trips and beach-club send-offs. They give guests a way to keep celebrating and unwind before travelling home.
Are pre and post-wedding venues separate from the main wedding venue?+
Usually yes. Most couples book restaurants, private villas, beach clubs, wineries or hotel spaces for these events, apart from the ceremony and reception venue. Some estates and hotels offer full weekend takeovers that cover everything.
How far in advance should we book?+
Six to nine months ahead for restaurants and beach clubs in peak season (May to September). For boats, wineries and full villa buy-outs, twelve months is safer.
Can you handle the coordination?+
Yes. Our team books, coordinates and manages transport, timing and guest communication for every pre and post-wedding event so nothing falls on you.
Which regions do you cover?+
All Spain: Ibiza, Mallorca, Barcelona and Sitges, Costa Brava, Madrid, Valencia, Málaga and Marbella, Alicante, plus wine regions such as Rioja and Priorat.
